Imaging voltage of neurons

Our paper entitled “A robotic multidimensional directed evolution approach applied to fluorescent voltage reporters” is now published in Nature Chemical Biology. Congrats to Drs. Piatkevich and Jung – the first co-authors of this paper!

It is also on MIT news.

This paper reports a novel genetically encoded molecule named Archon that changes its fluorescent light intensity as a function of the voltage across the cell membrane allowing to directly “image” neuronal voltage activity. This work was led by Prof. Ed Boyden (MIT).
